Henry Drummond was a Scottish evangelist, author, and scientist who lived in the 19th century. He was a prominent figure in the Keswick Convention movement and is best known for his book 'Pax Vobiscum'.
Drummond was born in Stirling, Scotland, in 1851. He studied science at the University of Edinburgh and then went on to study theology at the Free Church College in Edinburgh. After graduating, he was ordained as a minister in the Free Church of Scotland.
In 1873, Drummond attended the first Keswick Convention, which was a gathering of evangelical Christians. He was deeply influenced by the teachings of the convention's founder, John Keswick, and became a regular speaker at Keswick in the years that followed.
In 1881, Drummond published his most famous book, 'Pax Vobiscum'. The book was a collection of sermons that Drummond had preached at Keswick. It became a bestseller and was translated into many languages. 'Pax Vobiscum' is still considered to be one of the most influential Christian books of the 19th century.
In addition to his work as an evangelist, Drummond was also a gifted scientist. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a member of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. He wrote several books on science and religion, including 'Natural Law in the Spiritual World' and 'The Ascent of Man'.
Drummond died in 1897 at the age of 45. He was a brilliant thinker and a passionate follower of Christ. His writings have had a profound impact on the Christian faith and continue to inspire Christians today.
The Greatest Thing in the World
One of Drummond's most famous sermons was entitled 'The Greatest Thing in the World'. In this sermon, Drummond argues that the greatest thing in the world is love. He defines love as "the unselfish desire to make others happy." He goes on to say that love is the most powerful force in the world and that it can conquer all things.
'The Greatest Thing in the World' has been translated into over 100 languages and has sold over 10 million copies. It is one of the most popular Christian sermons ever written and continues to inspire Christians today.
