Bonta's haiku are often deceptively simple, but they capture the complex emotions of loss and grief with a precision that is both heartbreaking and healing. In the following haiku, Bonta captures the suddenness and shock of losing a loved one:

The phone call comes Your voice is gone forever My heart in pieces

The brevity of the haiku form forces the reader to confront the raw emotions of grief head-on. There is no room for sugarcoating or euphemism. Bonta's haiku are a testament to the power of poetry to express the inexpressible.

In addition to their emotional depth, Bonta's haiku are also remarkable for their beauty. Bonta has a gift for finding the perfect image or metaphor to capture the essence of a moment or feeling. In the following haiku, Bonta compares the loss of a loved one to the falling of leaves in autumn:

Autumn leaves falling One by one, they drift away My heart empties

The image of the leaves falling is both beautiful and poignant. It suggests the inevitability of death and the passage of time. But it also suggests the hope of renewal. Just as new leaves will grow in the spring, so too will the grieving heart find healing and hope.

Somewhere My Friend Somewhere is a powerful and moving collection of haiku that explores the universal themes of loss and grief. Bonta's poems are a testament to the power of poetry to heal and to give voice to the inexpressible.
