Early Life and Career
Max Factor was born Maksymilian Faktorowicz in Zduńska Wola, Poland, in 1872. He began his career as a wigmaker in his father's shop. In 1895, he moved to the United States, where he worked as a makeup artist for the theater. In 1909, he opened his own cosmetics shop in Los Angeles.
The Birth of Modern Cosmetics
Factor was a pioneer in the development of modern cosmetics. He was the first to create a line of cosmetics that were designed to be used by everyday women. He also developed a number of new makeup techniques, such as the use of foundation to even out skin tone and the use of mascara to make eyelashes appear longer and thicker.
Hollywood Glamour
Factor's work played a major role in the development of the Hollywood glamour look. He created iconic looks for stars such as Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor. He also developed a number of makeup products that were specifically designed for use in films, such as the first waterproof mascara and the first liquid foundation.
Legacy
Max Factor died in 1938, but his legacy continues to live on. His company, Max Factor & Co., is one of the world's leading cosmetics companies. And his makeup techniques are still used by makeup artists around the globe.
Max Factor was a true pioneer in the world of cosmetics. He revolutionized the way women thought about beauty and makeup, and he created some of the most iconic looks in Hollywood history. He is truly deserving of his place as one of the most influential figures in the history of beauty.
